In the Salloum region of Senegal, the Wolof people live in physical and spiritual poverty: most barely grow enough food for their families to survive the dry season, and most have never heard the good news about Jesus. The vast majority of the population lives in spiritual bondage to the unique mixture of animism and Islam handed down from their forefathers. Interactions with the spiritual world and strict observance of rituals that they believe will lead to acceptance from God are the main features of religious life.
